Terms of use

These terms apply when you use bionexus.pro, which is run by Brian Murray in Ireland. By creating an account or using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Your account

• You need a free account to use the search tools. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you're responsible for activity on your account.
• You must be 16 or over to create an account.
• You can delete your account at any time from your account page.

Fair use

The search tools are free, so we ask you to use them fairly. Please don't:

• use scripts, bots or automated tools to run searches or download data in bulk;
• try to get around search limits, area-size limits or access controls;
• interfere with the site, or use it to put excessive load on the data providers behind it;
• use the site for anything unlawful.

To keep the service quick for everyone, there are limits on how many searches you can run in a short period and per day, and on the size of areas you can search. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

The data and its licences

• bionexus.pro doesn't own the biodiversity records it shows. They come from iNaturalist, GBIF and NBN Atlas and remain the property of their recorders and data providers.
• Each record carries its own licence (for example CC0, CC BY or CC BY-NC), shown in the record details, the licence summary and the CSV download. You must follow the licence of every record you reuse, including credit requirements. Records under a non-commercial (NC) licence must not be used for commercial purposes without the rights holder's permission.
• Maps and charts you download from bionexus.pro may be used freely, provided you credit the underlying data sources and respect the record licences.

No guarantee of accuracy

Records are shown as supplied by the data providers and may contain errors in identification, date or location; some locations are deliberately blurred to protect sensitive species. The absence of records doesn't mean a species is absent. Check the original record before relying on it, and don't use bionexus.pro as the sole basis for planning, legal or conservation decisions.

Shared maps

Some maps are published by bionexus.pro for display on other websites. They remain ours to change, pause or withdraw at any time. Please don't embed them on sites other than those we've agreed.

Supporting bionexus.pro

You can choose to support bionexus.pro with a one-off or monthly payment. It's voluntary, it goes towards the running costs of the service (hosting, database and map services), and it doesn't unlock any extra features. Payments are taken by Stripe. bionexus.pro isn't a registered charity, so support payments aren't tax-deductible.

You can cancel a monthly payment at any time using the link in your Stripe receipt or the “Manage monthly support” link on the Support form, or by emailing us; no further payments are taken after you cancel. If you paid by mistake, email us within 30 days and we'll refund it.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the site running but can't promise it will always be available or error-free, and the data providers may change or withdraw their services. We may change features, limits or these terms; we'll update the date above when we do.

Liability

The free service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or the data on it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction.
